WINNERS - 2011 Cassone Channel Honors - Season 13

I am pleased to make public the official winners list for The 2011 Cassone Channel Honors for Season 13 of the videos that aired across my YouTube channels. For the first time, we not only have one, but two categories where the result was a tie. In both instances, the top vote getters were one (1) vote apart from one another. As this had never been the case, I decided to declare both contests a tie. This will be in effect moving forward in future seasons.

I am also happy that Ron Bivens is no longer the "Susan Lucci" of my little awards system. After 10 previous nods, with no wins - Ron won in the Best Technical Achievement category and also shared with his team for the Best Webisode winner. Bette Midler is the recipient of the Season 13 - 2011 Walter McCoy Life Legend Award for career achievement and her humanitarian efforts (previously announced).

GRAMMY WATCH - Music Video Categories - Predictions & Picks

Last year, I waited till the last minute, got horribly ill and couldn't finish my blogs about the Grammy Awards - with my annual picks and predictions. In fact, for the first time in my life, I totally missed the entire broadcast altogether. Anyone who knows me knows that the four major U.S. showbusiness awards dates are almost like a national holiday for me - these next several blogs will be all about the music, which is food for my soul.

This year, as always, the Grammy nominations provide a hodge podge of what the music industry sees as it's best worthy of recognition. They have gotten younger in their choices, but all in all every category has what should be there along with one or two surprises - and, of course, a few glaring omissions.

I am kicking off my Grammy coverage with two categories that I have always argued whether or not Grammy ever gets it right. Sometimes they reward an artist for career achievement here, without having to give them a vocal Grammy (ie Janet Jackson and Madonna won their first Grammy Awards in these categories), other times they go so left field one wonders who is choosing in these categories (if anyone at all). Short Form is for those videos we lay people seemingly catch on MTV, VH1, et al - Long Form is collections, concerts, documentaries with longer running times.

Best Short Form Music Video

AIN'T NO GRAVE / THE JOHNNY CASH PROJECT
Chris Milk, video director; Jennifer Heath, Aaron Koblin & Rick
Rubin, video producers [American/Universal] (Johnny Cash)

LOVE THE WAY YOU LIE (EXPLICIT VERSION)
Joseph Kahn, video director; Maryann Tanedo, video producer
[Aftermath] Eminem & Rihanna

STYLO
Pete Candeland & Jamie Hewlett, video directors; Cara Speller,
video producer
[Virgin Records] Gorillaz, Mos Def & Bobby Womack

F*** YOU
Matt Stawski, video director; Paul Bock, video producer
[Elektra] Cee Lo Green

BAD ROMANCE
Francis Lawrence, video director; Heather Heller, video producer
[Streamline/Interscope/KonLive/Cherrytree] Lady Gaga

I say it is between Lady Gaga and Cee Lo Green. First of all, let it be known I am tickled pink about F*** YOU getting some nominations. It says a lot about censorship, freedom of speech, etc. Cee Lo Green I ain't mad at ya! I love it. However, Lady Gaga simply, very simply worked the hell out of that Bad Romance video and I hope she gets the prize here. Don't count out Eminem & Rihanna (Em has the most nominations this year with 10) and everybody industry wide loves them some Johnny Cass and I wouldn't be surprised if they reward him posthumously here.

My Pick: Bad Romance - Lady Gaga
My Prediction: Bad Romance - Lady Gaga, BUT...she may be 'too popular' for Granny tastes among elder Grammy voters beaming it to Cash, or those who want to make a bold statement guiding Grammy Cee-Lo Green's way.

Best Long Form Music Video

NO DISTANCE LEFT TO RUN
Blur. Will Lovelace, Dylan Southern & Giorgio Testi, video directors;
Thomas Benski, Laura Collins & Lucas Ochoa, video producers
[Parlophone/EMI]

WHEN YOU'RE STRANGE
(The Doors). Tom Dicillo, video director; John Beug, Jeff Jampol, Peter
Jankowski & Dick Wolf, video producers [Eagle Vision]

THE GREATEST EARS IN TOWN: THE ARIF MARDIN
STORY
(Arif Mardin) Doug Biro & Joe Mardin, video directors; Doug Biro & Joe
Mardin, video producers [Nunoise Records]

RUSH: BEYOND THE LIGHTED STAGE
Rush. Sam Dunn & Scot McFadyen, video directors; Sam Dunn & Scot
McFadyen, video producers [Zoe]

UNDER GREAT WHITE NORTHERN LIGHTS
The White Stripes. Emmett Malloy, video director; Ian Montone & Mike Sarkissian,
video producers [Third Man/Warner Bros.]

A lot of history here. The Doors, Rush, Arif Mardin, White Stripes, Blur... WOW!

My pick: Arif Mardin - Gone, but not forgotten - he was such an awesome producer and this would be a nice testament to his legacy.

My prediction: The White Stripes are Grammy darlings and I just have a hunch about this one.

WINNERS from Season 8 of "Getting Ready" & The Cassone Channels Revealed

I am proud to bring you the winners for The 2010 Cassone Channel Honors for the Best of Season 8 from The Cassone Channels on YouTube. While season 7 was the Getting Ready series' least viewed season, season 8 was certainly the lowest in voter turnout. However, on average each category had about 35 voters. This, of course, was disappointing to me, but we still have winners - and I am proud of each and every one of them. Walter McCoy Life Legend Award, beginning with the 2010 awards year (Season 7) this award will be given to someone of my choosing based on their overall body of work and their contribution to GETTING READY and any of the Cassone2007 and PhotographybyCassone channels. I name this category after Walter McCoy, because from the beginning of my channel, he was always a silent, but very supportive and encouraging force behind a lot of what ended up being the final product. If it were not for Walter, we would not have been graced by Miss Bea, nor would I have had a location for many of the webisodes and/or photo shoots. His career was in catering, restaurant and bar service industries, yet his steady support and constant blessing of my work is why I chose to name this award in a way to memorialize him, his efforts and his legacy. Walter passed away January 22, 2010. The recipient of this award will be chosen either annually, or season by season. Their career and life’s work should mirror each other in a standard of excellence, a giving back to the ‘world’ community through that work and have an essence that defines legendary status. The first recipient of this honor, I am proud to announce, is Miss Twiggy, whose career as a female impersonator spans four decades and her charity work through benefit shows and motherly approach to her younger contemporaries established her as a legend long before now.

THE 2010 CASSONE CHANNEL HONORS RULES & REGULATIONS

Rules, Categories and Regulations

Nominees are chosen based on subscriber comments, video views and ratings.

No more than five (5) webisodes will be selected for each category and in performer categories, no more than five (5) individual performers will be selected for performer categories – unless there is a tie. In that case there will be six nominees in that given category.

A voting body consisting of subscribers, channel viewers, social networking site group members and peer channel directors will select the winner(s) in each category via simple online polls.

Each category will be given its own separate poll, with results remaining in public view through the duration of the voting process.

Any video appearing on the Cassone2007 channel for a given season is eligible for an award. A ‘season’ constitutes 24 webisodes.

Winners in each category receive a trophy – and the honor.

All credited webisode performers, et al are eligible for the Best Webisode (per each given season) category – thus if a performer, technical person, co-director, production assistant, set designer, location producer et al was credited for that specific webisode; all are part of that nomination (and eventual award) in that given category.

All performer and technical achievement categories are for individual achievement for that specific supporting player, guest star or technical artist.

Supporting Player category is for individual ‘performers’ for each qualified season who have appeared in GETTING READY or any extras on the channel, in five (5) or more webisodes to be eligible for that category in that given season.

Guest Star category is for individual ‘performers’ for each qualified season who have appeared in GETTING READY in four (4) or less webisodes or any extras on the channel, to be eligible for that category in that given season.

Technical Achievement category, beginning with the 2010 awards year (Season 7) WILL now appear as a competition category for technical artist in a given webisode during a given season – i.e. this is for set designers, costumers, hair designers, makeup, lighting techs, sound operators, location producers, stylists and will be voted on by the general public.

Sister Channel awards are given to channels that have caught the eye of our subscribers and have a common bond with our audience, thus creating a more global feel to the experience while viewers are at Cassone’s sites and channel. Cassone will select this award, with suggestions being taken into consideration by subscribers and even the peer channel directors themselves. This category will be threefold, as an award will be given to Local, USA and Global. See categories for more information. These awards are to be given annually.

Pioneer Award is a special category given to an individual or channel that has promoted, shared, coached and assisted using their knowledge and tools to help the Cassone2007 channel grow, improve and meet the demands of it’s subscribers and viewership. Cassone will select the honoree, with suggestions being taken into consideration. This award will be given annually.

Public Service Award is given to an individual or channel that exemplifies the Cassone2007 view of creating art and/or media that provokes thought, incites positive activism that enlightens the human spirit and makes the world a brighter and better place. This award will be given annually.
